At Riebeeckstad High School, sport plays a vital role in developing well-rounded learners by promoting discipline, teamwork, resilience, and school pride. Our diverse sporting programme offers learners the opportunity to grow physically and mentally while building character and confidence.
Rugby is one of the school’s proud traditions, teaching learners commitment, perseverance, and respect through both training and competitive play. Netball is a popular and dynamic sport that develops teamwork, coordination, and self-discipline while building confidence on and off the court. Hockey provides a fast-paced environment where learners strengthen their fitness, focus, and determination while learning to work effectively as a team.
Soccer offers learners the opportunity to develop skill, discipline, and teamwork in a positive and competitive environment that fosters school pride. Tennis encourages agility, concentration, and sportsmanship, allowing learners to grow individually while representing the school with pride. Athletics develops speed, strength, endurance, and determination, teaching learners to set goals, overcome challenges, and strive for personal improvement. Cross country further builds stamina, perseverance, and mental toughness, encouraging learners to push beyond their limits and grow in resilience.
We believe that education extends beyond the classroom. Our extracurricular programme provides learners with opportunities to develop leadership, creativity, teamwork, and self-confidence while discovering and nurturing their individual talents.
The school choir allows learners to express their musical abilities, develop vocal skills, and participate in performances that enrich the cultural life of the school. Debate encourages critical thinking, research, and confident communication, helping learners to express their ideas clearly and engage thoughtfully with different perspectives.
Cheerleading brings energy and enthusiasm to the school, promoting teamwork, discipline, and school spirit while building confidence and unity among learners. Public speaking develops clarity, confidence, and persuasive communication skills, preparing learners to express themselves effectively in both academic and real-world settings.
Drama and Creative Writing provide learners with opportunities to explore imagination, storytelling, and self-expression. These activities build confidence, communication skills, and creativity, contributing to the development of well-rounded and expressive individuals.

Riebeeckstad High School proudly celebrates the achievements of our athletes at the ASA South African Cross Country Championships, held in Middelburg, Mpumalanga on 6 September.
A special congratulations to Katleho Mokhothu, who delivered an outstanding performance by finishing 6th in the Boys U/16 category. As part of the Free State team, he also earned a bronze team medal, adding to this impressive accomplishment.
The 2026 cross country season has been a remarkable one for Riebeeckstad High School. A total of 13 athletes represented the Free State at provincial level, showcasing the strength and depth of our athletics programme.

Riebeeckstad High School proudly congratulates Reanetse Morabe and Retshidisitwe Setlaelo on their outstanding achievement at the Regional Eskom Expo for Young Scientists, held at the Central University of Technology (CUT) on Saturday, 16 August.
Competing for the first time, they achieved an excellent result by earning a Gold Medal for their innovative project on a gravity-fed water system. Their work demonstrated strong scientific thinking, creativity, and a practical approach to solving real-world challenges.
This achievement reflects their dedication, curiosity, and commitment to academic excellence. It also highlights the growing strength of scientific innovation at Riebeeckstad High School.
